Should we still classify individuals by 'race'? What benefits come from the federal government's knowledge of an individual's race? Do you agree with the author's suggestions for Hispanics and Arab Americans on the census? In the future, do you believe 'race' designations will continue to be necessary? If not, what do you think will determine that change?
My question is why does people get classified by the race. I can understand why the government wants to know each individual back round, but why race? I don’t think it matters if a person is black, white, Hispanic or other. This society anyone could be an immigrant. I just think survey should be according to the population NOT what a person ethnicity, when the ‘race’ isn’t located on the Census. For an example Puerto Ricans are familiar with the Spanish language but so are the Mexicans, Cuban, and Latino. The Census has it located as one race.
