I have two extra articles for discussion, if you are interested. The first is about female CEO's outearning male CEO's in 2009. Do you think this represents a shift, or do you think that the glass ceiling still exists? The second article concerns New York City and a debate over policing or profiling due to frisking and police stops in 2009. Look at the statistics for each article, share your thoughts and respond to others' posts. Thanks!
For a cop to think a suspect has a certain look is wrong. Your race should not affect the way people profile you. A suspect could be anyone. Just like the elderly woman at BRandonwoods who murdered another woman. You can be an innocent old lady and become a criminal. The race , age , size ect... does not change who you are or might be. The president is black .. does that mean he is a suspect ? Race is just to describe your backgrounds not your actually personalities themself. Over all I do not believe that a cop should be allowed to do this to someone. To pull them over and frisk them just because they look like they are carrying something or are doing something wrong. Of coarse every so often someone will actually have something on them or have done something wrong but who says its them right now.
I am glad woman are finally earning more than men. This doesn’t entirely mean the ‘glass window’ still exists, it just means the tables are finally turning in the favor of hard working women. It used to be no matter how hard a woman worked she could never reach the potential that less hard working men had.But now if a woman is better at something than a man, she can earn the correct amount. As a ‘Darwinism’ society, it is now survival of the fittest and best, not the best looking man. If a woman is better able to do something, than she succeeds and in the end earns more.
What is on the outside has nothing to do with what is on the inside. Period.Profiling is awful and wrong and it is done just to make the people who it feels better about themselves. The police officers who do it should know better and should be trained against it, like in Jane Elliot’s experiment. With the blue eyes and brown eyes test, it was more or less proven that there is no difference with people’s abilities or skills due to what is on the outside. Everyone should be a suspect, regardless of color, age, race, sex, mental capacity and morals.

·I don’t really think this represent a shift, because those are only for big business. Females still make less than males in an average work force. The glass ceilings still exist, but its cracking lacking if you know what I mean.
·This been going on for years, they been stopping blacks sense slavery, they stop blacks that are moving things, like shipping things from one state to another or in the state itself. Now I know the reason why blacks run faster, because they don’t want the popo’s to catch up. 490,000 blacks and Latinos were stopped by the police on the streets last year, compared with 53,000 whites; Whites were arrested in slightly more than 6 percent of the stops, blacks in slightly fewer than 6 percent. About 1.7 percent of whites who were stopped were found to have a weapon, while 1.1 percent of blacks were found with one. If they stop whites more they will found out that the majority of them have guns, if you go to the south, a lot of whites carry guns like it’s a wallet.
·P.S the majority of males have wallets, that why I pick that kind of metaphor, because they always have it on them.

this is not a shock to me. this is very common not just in new york but in states all over the united states. blacks and latinos are always going to stop and frisk even though it was proven that white are the ones to be found with weapons on them. at the ned of the day the non-white will always to suspect. it horrible in a country that has so many mixed people they are still singled out for being of a differemt race.

I think your racer should not effect the waypeople look or feel about you. People shouldn't profile others based on there race, gender, age, or size, because no matter how different, it doesn't change who you are, can, and might be. A police officer shouldn't be able or willing to do these kinds of things to people of a different ethnicity, I mean who in there right mine would. Just because out of your suspision they may seem wrong doesn't mean anything. What if the person you frisked didn't have anything, but the person you let go of the right ethnicity had a bomb on them and bombed your hometown, you would feel dumb or really bad and wrong for racial profiling.
Its about time us woman get paid for the hard work we do. It wasn't fair that men got the higher paid for basically not putting in 100 % . most woman stop working as hard as a man because we weren't get paid they same and their were some woman who never gave up. Profiling is dispicable it should be against the law but you can't even say that because the law enforcement does it to and other personal people try to do it in another way so it doesn't show but people aren't stupid. I feel all are equal no matter what just like in healt care you walk into an emergency room you get service because medcine does not judge we are their to care for others. I feel that the government should put this into training when it comes to government, politics, and law enforcement jobs.
Although it's interesting news, I think that the glass ceiling is still very much in tact. Cracked? Perhaps, but I don't think that this data is an accompllishment. Rather, I believe it to be the beginning of the shifting of the tides. Sure, women CEO's make a lot, but they are such a small percentage of the women that work. The average woman still makes a lot less than the average man.
Ahhh... this article brings back certain memories of a pleasant Saturday night conversation (AhemMoussaAhem). Although I'm not 100% against profiling, I think that the statistics speak for themselves- it's not practical, and it's also discriminatory in this case.

I don't think profiling is 'awful and wrong', Mr. Spinale. I think done correctly, it can be a very effective method of protecting homeland security. Although I think it's wrong to employ this tactic in this case, don't you think that there are practical uses for it?
I do believe that the glass ceiling still exists, and this data only confirms that a shift is in the making, but still in the distance. This data is encouraging and it is a definite positive that some women are making more than some men, however the average woman still earns substantially less than the average man.
Profiling, in any case, is a rather immoral means of achieving a moral goal. It's sort of like stealing money to help starving children; the ultimate goal is completely honorable and understandable, however, the whole "by any means necessary" attitude is a tad rash.
i feel that women should not earn more than men. i believe in equal work equal pay. now others might feel that women should make more than men for all the years women didnt make the same. but i feel that it should have been the same all the way through. i believe that the glass window in essence is still there... these are just a few cases where women are making more... now it is a closer step to equal pay, but it is still away from elimination of the glass window
and as for the profiling in where minorites are being stopped more then white people. and where they are found as not guilty as the minorities. it is nonsense, i understand that the authorities are trying to prevent acts of crime by acting on suspicious behavior, but i also think it should be judged properly, and done fairly. we are a country that should be passed predjudice acts in major cities, but towns, and counties.
I glad that woman CEO are finally making more than men, even though there are more men CEO. This does represent a shift in woman rights. Woman in the past who works as CEO made a lot less than men. As for the cops it’s unfair that black and Latino were stop and frisk just because they look suspicious. But white men were check and the cops found 1500 weapons and black, and Latino had 700 weapons. But the cops didn’t have a probable cause to stop and frisk random people. The people just look suspicious.

danny you would say that, but i do believe pay should be equal no matter the gender.
article #1 - because i am a women of course i am happy to see a woman is making more than a man, although i do believe pay should be equal no matter the gender. I also agree with Max that this is a big business, while average jobs it wouldnt balance out the same. Also, i still dont understand why a man gets paid more than a woman, even doing the same exact job?

i agree with jahnay so much! I do feel like Black and Latinos seem to be singled out and its said because just because of the color of your skin you shouldnt be judged.

seriously it couldnt have been said any better, i agree with every last word she said.
article # 2 - Well its obvious minorites are often stopped more likely than Whites, because they "usually fit the description". That makes it seem like minorites do all the crimes when they honestly dont. I feel like its wrong that police really do that because anyone can commit a crime no matter the gender, age, race or anything else.
I think that women should be getting paid the same if not more than men. If women work harder than men then they should be rewarded with higher pay and earn more. Gender shouldn’t matter, it all has to do with the ability you have in the area. It doesn’t really mean the glass window is still around it just means that change is occurring.
I think that there is a slight shift in the glass ceiling because women are getting paid at a higher salary and to some that is unheard of or even seen to be impossible. On the other hand I feel the glass ceiling does still exist because why does everyone find it so amusing and rare for women to get paid for their hard work. If the article didn’t mention the word ‘women’ no one would look at it. Why is it such a shock that women get paid higher, for what they deserve? I am kind of conflicting on the glass ceiling, because I feel that it shouldn’t come to a shock that SOME women get paid higher than males but the attention brings female appreciation. Almost like it inspired women to strive against gender issues. I think no matter what if a woman strives in anything people will find it shocking but also inspiring. Maybe after years the glass ceiling will slowly shatter.

1) I’m not sure that it completely represents a shift because this is only an example for big business but the average male still makes more than the average female. And I still believe the glass ceiling exists but it is slowly deteriorating. 2) I don’t believe racial profiling has to do with anything here. The police are just doing their job in preventing crimes being done in high crime rate areas.
"The stops led to 34,000 arrests and the seizing of more than 6,000 weapons other than guns, according to the center’s analysis." I feel that with that quote right there it's worth it. No matter what people are going to use racial profiling as an excuse. Of course I think racial profiling is wrong, but the statistics also give them reasons to do so. Police officer's main concern is for safety for the society and they will stop who ever to do so.
Do you think this represents a shift, or do you think that the glass ceiling still exists?
I wouldn't say its a shift at all, this only represents the highest paid people in the country. The everyday woman still makes less than a man in average jobs. Also female ceo's are currently making more on average due to the amount of men who lost jobs as ceo's and the fact there are more male ceo's which bring their average down, so while it is a slight change appearing to be in favor of woman it truly is just how they are perceived.
Look at the statistics for each article, share your thoughts and respond to others' posts.
The only way to solve problems related to suspicion of racial profiling is to start a quota for the number of white people that must be stopped and questioned. The statistics would support my quota plan because they have shown white people are more likely to be carrying weapons and be committing crimes.
On the other hand I feel the glass ceiling does still exist because why does everyone find it so amusing and rare for women to get paid for their hard work. If the article didn’t mention the word ‘women’ no one would look at it. Why is it such a shock that women get paid higher, for what they deserve?
Is that high of pay deserved by anyone, man or woman? These are CEO's they aren't laborers slaving over an assembly line or a surgeon spending hundreds of hours a month performing open heart surgeries. No matter the gender or race or any other factor no CEO needs this kind of compensation.
Im gad that women ceo’s are making more money then men because back then women couldn’t really do anything but when women did have jobs men would make jus as much as women even though they were doing the samething, and for the new York minority I don’t like the fact that the cops just stop people by race. To me it doesn’t matter what race or gender you are if your doing something wrong or have anything on you that your not suppose to then you should get punished for it no matter what the race is.
